In order to eliminate the impact of “emission gates” and find new profit growth points, Volkswagen Group has been very ambitious about the electric vehicle market. In recent days, it has clearly stated that it will exceed Tesla and will become the world’s largest electric vehicle manufacturer by 2025. In order to achieve this goal, the vast Chinese market and the VW joint venture in China are the key. Volkswagen China President and CEO Heitzman recently said in Tianjin that he plans to put into production of new-energy vehicle motors in Tianjin next year, in preparation for future domestic electric vehicles.
One million in 2025
Recently, at a press release held at the Volkswagen Group headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany, Volkswagen Brand Director Herbert Dieers stated that by 2025 he hopes that the annual sales of Volkswagen's electric vehicles can exceed one million mark. He threatened that Volkswagen's new electric car series - ID can achieve all the features of Tesla, "Even Tesla can not do, we can do!"
Currently, Tesla’s two best-selling models are the ModelS sedan and the ModelX crossover, both of which are expensive. Tesla CEO Musk has realized that the mainstream of the future electric car market will not be a high-end car that can hit nearly one million at a time. Therefore, it is stepping up to introduce a Model3, which is more price-neutral. This is a compact car, the price is set at 35,000 US dollars, Musk hopes that by 2020, Tesla's sales can reach 1 million.
In this regard, Diyes said: "The Tesla has always been the high-end route, although it is now turning to the front of the mass consumption route, but on the way to attack Tesla, we have already targeted. We will first put Some models with a price below $30,000 and some high-end models aim to be market leaders."
According to reports, based on the latest production module, Volkswagen has already set three electric models. Its design, technical concept and core components will be finalized by the end of this year. These models will officially enter the market in 2020, which will have a golf size hatchback and two SUVs, called ID, IDBuzz, IDCrozz. The three vehicles will be the first models of the Volkswagen ID electric car family, of which the IDCrozz concept version will be unveiled at this year's Shanghai auto show and will be the first domestic model to be implemented in the ID family.
China and joint venture companies are the key
At present, China is the world's largest electric vehicle market. Of course, the public also knows this well. Diyers believes that he can use the power of the VW joint venture in China to reduce costs and vigorously develop the electric vehicle market that meets the needs of the general public, thus surpassing Tesla.
One of the important reasons why Volkswagen is confident that it can exceed Tesla is that it has two important partners in China – SAIC and FAW. Last year, China’s nine production bases produced more than 3 million vehicles for the public. Automobiles, it can be said that the Volkswagen brand occupies an important position in the passenger vehicle market in China. Tesla has no production partners in China. Although China’s technology giant Tencent recently purchased 5% of its shares, it did not provide any production assistance.
Diyes said: “China will certainly be a pioneer in the electric vehicle market in the future.” In March of this year, Volkswagen China President and CEO Hyzman predicted that in the next four years, China’s plug-in hybrid vehicles will The annual growth rate of pure electric vehicles will be 60%, 2 million by 2020, and 6 million by five years.
Tianjin will start production of motors next year
Recently, Heitzman said during the inspection of the project in Tianjin that in 2018 Volkswagen plans to put into production of a new energy vehicle motor in Tianjin for future electric vehicles made in China.
Heizman said that the public is very concerned about the development of new energy vehicles. “The Volkswagen Transmission Company, which has been put into production in Tianjin, is the most high-tech enterprise in the world in the same area. We plan to put into production of new energy vehicle motors here in the next year. Equipped with the first generation of electric cars that were put into production in China by the public."
Hetzmann introduced that Volkswagen is actively transforming and upgrading, and fully promoting the electric vehicle business. By 2020, the annual sales of electric vehicles in China will reach 400,000 units, and by the year 2025, it will reach 1.5 million.
In addition, at the Volkswagen Group's annual shareholder meeting held on May 10th, local time, Volkswagen Group CEO Matthias Muller said that in the past five years, Volkswagen has spent 3 billion euros for the development of alternative drive technology. In the next five years, the investment will increase to 9 billion euros. Volkswagen will continue to develop gasoline and diesel engines. By 2025, Volkswagen will have more than 30 models of pure electric vehicles.
At present, Volkswagen is working with manufacturers in the field of batteries in Europe and China to discuss cooperation. SAIC-VW's plug-in hybrid version has been unveiled this year at the Shanghai Auto Show. This is the first domestic plug-in hybrid car for the Volkswagen brand, which will be launched in the Chinese market during the year.
